The Truth About Getting Abs – How to Get Rid of Belly Fat

There is still a great deal of misinformation out there about how to get ripped six pack abs, most of it propagated by men and women’s health magazines which make their money off of advertising supplements and workout equipment.
The truth however is that there are no abdominal exercises which significantly reduce belly fat and tone the midsection. The abs are muscles, and like all muscles, when exercised, they get stronger. If the muscle is large enough, it can burn calories and raise your metabolic rate, but the abs are not large muscles. If you have very little belly fat, ab exercises will certainly help improve the look of your core, but if you’re carrying 10 extra pounds of body fat, then the only exercise that’ll tone those abs is to exercise your discretion when selecting your meals.
Diet, not exercise is the key to getting six pack abs. While we should all engage in frequent fitness training for health, if you’re looking for a lean physique, diet is responsible for upwards of 80% of the results you’re looking for. That means fewer crunches, and more vegetables and lean meats. It also means cutting out processed foods, foods that are high in fat, and simple sugars found in pastas, breads, and sugar itself.
Combine a healthy diet with high intensity interval training and you’ll have six pack abs in no time.
